From Darkness to Renewal: How Ice Bath Therapy Helped Desmond Lai Overcome Depression

Warrior Plunge founded by David Lai has within a short period of 2 years kick-started the largest Ice bath Community in Malaysia. Through the more than 10, 000 participants, many have discovered the benefits of ice bath therapy. Relief from Depression and anxiety is one of them.

Emerging research suggests that cold water immersion can elevate mood, reduce stress, and potentially alleviate symptoms of depression. This is believed to be due to the release of endorphins and norepinephrine, neurotransmitters that play pivotal roles in mood regulation and stress response.

Desmond Lai recently shared on Instagram how ice bath therapy by Warrior Plunge played a crucial role in his journey to overcome depression. This is his story shared on Instagram.

"Hey people who know me, you might’ve noticed I’ve been super low on energy, distant, and just not myself. I didn’t talk much, hid away from everyone—yup, that was me. I was going through depression, losing grip on my mind and soul.

It felt like actual heartache, losing focus, weird heartbeats, no appetite, and insomnia (barely 3-4 hours of sleep a night). Anxiety attacks even got the best of me, and I passed out at work. I felt so lost and helpless... but life goes on, and so does the pain.

But here’s where the twist happened. One day, I had to go to a company team-building event I couldn’t escape, and that’s where I met some incredible people—David, Piyachai—and experienced my first ice bath.

Before the ice bath, Piyachai taught us a breathing technique that made an immediate difference. The pressure, the pain, and the ache in my heart all started to fade. But stepping into that freezing pool was a battle. The cold hit me, and I couldn’t focus, couldn’t breathe right—my mind was flooded with negative thoughts. I lost control, and the pain took over. But somehow, I pushed myself to stay in, and when the pain became unbearable, I let out everything through a scream. That release was everything.

And then... I felt relief. Peace. My sleep that night? Best sleep I’ve had in 1.5 months. After that, I started doing ice baths more and more, and slowly, my sleep, my emotion, my state, my energy, and focus have been coming back.

Ice bath is really an incredible magic! It hacks and works things out in your body miraculously
